David Kay grabs late-season victory at Talladega Short Track

LINCOLN, Ala. (12/23/2024) – In his final start of the 2024 season, David Kay drove to a thrilling last-lap victory in Saturday’s Santa Shootout at Talladega Short Track aboard his Davison Insurance Agency LLC / T&K Plumbing / Superior Spray Foam LLC No. K5 Longhorn Chassis Late Model.
The Lincoln, Alabama, racer increased his 2024 win total to seven with the triumphant victory in the 602 Late Model feature.
“Man, that was awesome,” Kay said. “I wasn’t sure if I had the speed to make it to the front but this car has been fast. There are many people I need to thank, but I want to give a special shout-out to Vinny Guliani with VG Performance. We’ve only been working together for a few weeks, but his guidance has made a big difference in our program and I think we’re starting to turn the corner. I am really looking forward to the Ice Bowl in a couple of weeks.”
Kay made the short trip to Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Ala.) over the weekend to get a headstart on the upcoming Ice Bowl with the track’s Santa Shootout.
With plans to pull double duty in the 604 and 602 Late Model ranks, Kay’s night in his 604 entry was cut short after making contact with the wall on lap 14 of the feature. Despite qualifying in the top half of the 19-car field, Kay struggled with a severe vibration early in the 20-lap affair that ultimately resulted in contact with the wall.
In his 602 Late Model, Kay overtook Mario Gresham on the final circuit of the 15-lap A-Main to secure his seventh win of the season. He finished 0.156 seconds ahead of Gresham with Nikalas Godfrey rounding out the podium.

With the 2024 season in the books, David is set to kick off the 2025 campaign in early January with the 34th annual Ice Bowl at Talladega Short Track. Preliminaries on Friday, January 3rd, set the stage for both 604 and 602 main events on Saturday night.
